1st Camping Trip

For Morgan's birthday we decided we were going to go camping. The last time we camped was with Cami somewhere in Kentucky labor day 07. I guess technically that was really Willa's first camping trip, but I didn't even know she existed at that point.

The weather was lovely and I reserved a beautiful site at Jone's Gap State Park. We loaded up the car with a ton of stuff, the baby and the dogs and we were off. The site was not too far from the parking lot, but it still took about 4 trips (me 1 and Morgan 3) to get all our gear there. After we unpacked and set up the tent we decided to take a little hike to tire the dogs out a little bit. During the day I remember noticing- Willa is really sneezing a lot.

After our hike I fed Willa while Morgan worked on our dinner. The smoke from the campfire and a low temperature in the mid 50s combined to give Willa the worst congestion imaginable. She was miserable all night long. She woke up every 45 minutes most of the night. There was one 2 hour stretch from 4-6, but it was awful. The words of the nurse at the hospital were ringing in my ears... this is a really nice bulb syringe- you'll want to hang on to this. I hadn't used the thing in 4 months, but the one night I needed it, of course it was at home in a drawer.

So we waited until light, folded up the tent and headed for home like zombies. Willa slept most of the ride in her carseat. On the way home I was quite sure that I would never sleep in a tent again, but now a week has gone by and the idea doesn't seem quite so horrible. Maybe we'll try again next spring.
