Halloween

It has been a big week for Willa with Halloween and a visit from Nana and Grandpa Wilson. Morgan and I both grew up in families where homemade Halloween costumes were the norm so I knew Willa needed a homemade costume for her first Halloween. It is funny because my mom mentioned a clown costume that she made for David that got a lot of use over the years, and Morgan's mom has a jester costume from the same era that she made. I know neither of our families had lots of extra money in those days to spend on plastic masks and capes, but more importantly cheap plastic costumes just don't seem to have a place in either family. I must say that store-bought costumes have come a long way and are really cute, but Willa wore her costume to a party at the library (45 minutes) and over to the neighbors to trick-or-treat, but that was it. So I don't think it would have been a good investment. She was a purple cone flower- made with the scraps from a baby carrier I made and hat Grandma B made for her.

Suki and Blanca didn't get homemade costumes, but this is the third year that they have worn/eaten the same costumes.

Nana and Grandpa hadn't seen Willa since August and they couldn't wait until Thanksgiving so they packed up and drove down Wednesday to visit. They arrived after Willa's afternoon nap and when she first saw them she didn't know exactly what to think. She didn't cry and wasn't scared, but for about 15 minutes they both commented on what a serious baby she was. Once she got used to their faces I don't think she was too serious for the rest of the visit. It was fun for Willa to have 2 more people to look at and 1 more dog, although Lucy didn't really appreciate how much of Nana's attention Willa got. Willa got to go to a hobby shop with Grandpa and we all took a drive into the mountains to see the fall colors and a waterfall that we had missed on 3 other attempts. It was a lovely visit, and it made me wish we were closer.
